Unit 1--ColonizationIn the 15th Century, European powers began an age of discovery that would spread their influence around the world. Explorers ventured into--and dared the myths of--the darkest places on the maps. They looked for silver and gold, new souls to bring into Christendom, and a new trade route to Asia. What they found was a New World and contact with new peoples. Their interactions--both friendly and violent--would change forever the course of human history.

Unit 2--RevolutionOn the East Coast of what would become the United States, European society was able to establish a toehold in an alien place. Surviving disease, starvation, and various wars, the English Colonies in North America developed into thriving commerce and cultural centers. These new Americans were robust, independent, and resourceful. Some would risk everything in an epic war against tyranny and the most powerful army in the world for a chance to create a new kind of government--one based on freedom and independence of its people.
